The Himalaya Foundation is a non-denominational
registered charitable organization that provides housing and education for children in India. The
Himalaya Foundation has established and operates the Nav Paryas ("New Home") orphanage in
Chandigarh, India.
Every child deserves a family in order to grow into a responsible and contributing member of society. The Himalaya Foundation was incorporated in the fall of 2002. It is a registered Canadian charitable foundation sponsored by the Kaushal Family. The Foundation seeks to relieve poverty and to advance education in India. To fulfill this purpose, the Foundation has established a non-denominational orphanage and educational facility for poor children in northern India. In developing countries, poverty is endemic and commonplace. Social safety nets do not exist, and causes such as poverty, droughts, disease, and civil conflict often mean that children in poor families are abandoned. These children, through no fault of their own, are left to fend for themselves. Some of them die. The survivors are often forced into child labour, prostitution, and other horrible conditions.
The mission of the Himalaya Foundation is to provide a home and family environment for poor, disadvantaged, and orphaned children below 15 years of age. It also seeks to provide education and family guidance so that the children may grow up to become responsible and contributing members of their society.
